Tarantula questions
Ok so when I last had my 2 chilean rose's they were kept in a faunarium with a nice vented lid, a heatmat one end, and the water bowel the cool end, and kept on my chest of drawers.
I was hoping to divide my 3 foot viv in half, and have the chaco one side, and get another t in the other side at a later date. My question is can I switch on the UV lighting in the viv? or not? ive been told it will blind them, but then been told its fine? Im stuck lol

Re: Tarantula questions
Tarantulas don't like lighting so I wouldn't use any form of it inside the tank. It wouldn't blind them as most species are pretty much blind anyway, they can only tell between night and day.
Be careful with partitioning the enclosure. I know some keepers who have not put the divider in correctly and it has fallen down resulting in one fat spider.

Re: Tarantula questions
As long as it can't be burrowed under or climbed over it should be fine, just make sure you give the wood glue enough time to dry and any fumes to evaporateTamz wrote:it would be help in place with wood glue

Re: Tarantula questions
Make sure the divider comes RIGHT to the top, even a couple of mm is enough for a spider to squeeze through. I have a divided tank, and one time I didn't replace the lid properly leaving about a 3mm (at the most) gap above the partition. My GBB and my boehmei decided to play house swapsies in the night. Fortunately I still had 2 spiders the next day, but I'm sure I wouldn't be so lucky a second time.

Re: Tarantula questions
As already mentioned, be sure the divider is a good fit and the right height to prevent conflict between the occupants. As long as they have hides to retire into, I can't see a problem using lighting to illuminate the tank.

Tarantulas don't like light. If you ever shine a torch on a Poecilotheria sp. they go mental.

Re: Tarantula questions
Most sp wouldn't like it if any and theres no point really doing it.
I agree with Alex especially Pokies they like the darkness lol

Re: Tarantula questions
Read the whole post and note that I have stated that they need somewhere to retire to but lighting the actual tank so you can see into it is fine. It's not like sunlight is non existent in the wild.
Re: Tarantula questions
Your right, but most pokie sp will reside in tree hollows or crevices, so sunlight that actually reaches them is extremely reduced or non existant.Willenium wrote:Read the whole post and note that I have stated that they need somewhere to retire to but lighting the actual tank so you can see into it is fine. Precisely, which is why a hide must be provided. If they have somewhere to slip away and escape sunburn then I don't see why you couldn't light the rest of the tank up so as to view the detail. To say that lighting up a tank will cause them harm regardless of refuge spots is ludicrous in my opinion.
