i started with Pandinus imperator, but that's not a T, so doesn't count lol...
my first T's were C darlingi bought at the BTS as a breeding pair. naturally, both turned out to be mature males, i didn't know what to look for at that stage of newb-ism lol so they lived their days out with me.
a little while later, i fell for a G rosea i saw in a shop, but was convinced to wait as it was £60 i think...ended up with two juves from another pet shop (Cold Blooded in Essex) for £15 total! both turned out to be female and i've still got them, they are nearly adult now!
it all went downhill from there... lol

My first tarantula was a Heteroscodra maculata sling - which I got bit by soon enough. Second? An adult female Pterinochilus murinus. No prizes for guessing what my third was.

Hi Crankstar,

First of all welcome to Arachnid Addicts.. we are a small site but are growing and theres a nice atmosphere here Very Happy

You need any help at all, obviously post here and we shall try to answer your questions asap.. Nice choice btw, they grow quick and to a fair size.

Most I've seen can be sods for flicking hairs though, so just watch out for that Smile

nice one, crankstar! personally i think parahybana's are completely underrated. they are a bit plain when young (though fluffy) but adults have a subtle beauty that is hard to match. combine that with nice size (i've seen an 11 inch one haha), and the occasionally slightly calm specimen, and it's just a great species.
great choice!

thanx guys, will take all the advice i can get,, she arrived this evenig as promised,, she is AWESOME !!! About 7cm in length in her normal stance. In the tank she came in she had 3 shed skins,,, WOW!! what a difference between each Shocked she really is a fuzzy little thing and in the right light she already has a pinkish 'tinge' to her hairs. Immediately removed the shed skins with 12" tweezers and had to encourage her out of the way as her water sponge was bone dry. All went really well.. not sure if i should have but i caught a juicy old moth in the house. She was Straight on it!! Like a shot!! Wowser, what fangs....

gonna sit for a while and just watch her before bed,,,, hope to get some sleep in a few hours !!! She has me hypnotised Shock! will keep you all updated,, thanx again

sounds good! i am a believer in feeding as soon as possible to settle a spider in!
of course there's a risk with moths of pesticide, so dunno if i'd do that very often...but sounds like no harm done!

My first was a G. rosea, then a curly hair which was back in may 09......now have 25 going from G.rosea, to L.Para. with a cpl of rare 1's inbetween lol. 23 are in my bedroom and the the avic avic and avic versicolour in lounge. Good job hubby has got over his arachniphobia lol. I got over mine as soon as I got the courage to hold one in April 09. But hubby has now got to the stage of not worrying about feeding or watering and handling if needs be. woohoo Laughing
