H lividum!
My juvenile cobalt blue arrived this morning. It hasn't got the blue colour yet. I was pretty nervous about unpacking it and did it in the bath with the long tongs I use for spot cleaning my spider tanks. But I guess it was still a bit cold or stunned from its journey as it wandered into its new home without any fuss
I didn't bother trying to get a pic. I didn't want to wait too long to house it in case it livened up too much! Hopefully I'll be able to get some pics once it's settled in a bit. I'm housing it in a large plastic sweet jar so it has space to make its burrow. I made it a starter burrow against the side of the jar and it's already gone down there. I've also wrapped the jar in brown paper so it's dark in there, to help it feel more secure.
All in all, not nearly as bad as I'd feared it might be.

I'm still a bit trembly now The B. auratum, on the other hand, is a little cutie. I'll get a pic of it later on.

pic of auratum on pics section, Teeny.
Might be a while before I get a pic of the cobalt, I'm not sticking my finger down its burrow, that's for sure.

Nice to hear you got your first old world Lisa.. Haplopelmas especially Lividum are gorgeous, shame you will never see it again
Although my Minax & Albostriatum come out of their burrows most nights so I get to see them occassionally
Re: H lividum!
I'd class myself a learner for sure, and I did hesitate about getting one just yet. But I figured the hardest part would be getting it into its enclosure, as once it was there I wouldn't need to get it out again for ages, if ever. But maybe because of the overnight journey it didn't kick up a fuss at all. I think they are better once they have their burrows sorted out, as they can just retreat down there if they feel threatened. I don't generally handle my spids anyway, and I'd never try to handle this one, so I'm not likely to be doing anything to annoy it. I'm sure we will get on fine.
Peter, I have it in a large sweet jar. Because I'm keeping it wrapped in dark paper most of the time, I'm hoping it will burrow against the side so I will be able to see it through the jar from time to time Plus, there's always feeding time which might in itself be a risky experience!

Re: H lividum!
Wait til you have to rehouse it in a bigger tank!
They are stunning T's, and one which I have never owned. Congrats on the new T's.

They have a rep for being very fast and nasty if you disturb them.

Or maybe I'll just take it round to Dans

Re: H lividum!
Ha ha it didn't like the burrow I'd made it against the side of the jar, so it's filled that one in and dug its own - right in the middle! I guess I'll never see it again now
