aww, thats nasty.... do they tend to eat the sac too then?? i know some could if they wanted to eat the males after but didnt know they could or would eat the egg sac??
silly question, do you just leave the sac there to hatch?? i thought you had to move it some how?? lol

They can eat the eggsac yep. I think its for a few reasons if they do. If they're disturbed they eat them - as a defense for the babies. Same as mice do, mice eat their babies if the nest is disturbed, as a way to protect them in a way. Also, after a certain time if they don't feel movement in the sac they dump it or eat it 'cause i guess they know its not alive/fertile.
You dont HAVE to remove it. The first sac i had i left with mum and it hatched in with her, she was great I pulled it when they hatched into N2's though and incubated them to slings myself. The second sac i left with mum for 10 weeks but pulled it because i thought it was a dud as by now it should of been slings. I pulled it and opened it and it was spiderlings already
When i get the brachys breeding though i'll be pulling the sacs at about 30 days to be on the safe side. Valuable species i tend to pull them too incase mum gets worried and munches it.

That is indeed and she's digging out the bottom end of the tank and laying some thin silk......... fingers crossed
Teeny and Chrissy, it's nerve wracking and full of disappointment and frustration but.. when it comes out ok and you got slings in pots that you know you bred... it overwhelmes all the bad!
